Moodle on AWS, Sized to Your Learners.

Shared hosting collapses on exam day. We deploy and migrate Moodle onto AWS with the pieces that actually matter — compute, a managed database, S3 file storage, Redis caching and automated backups — sized honestly to your traffic, not to a sales target. Deployment $200 fixed. Migration $300 fixed.

The Stack We Deploy

Proven components, no exotic experiments on your production site.

Compute & database

EC2 (or Lightsail for small sites) running PHP 8.x tuned for Moodle, with Amazon RDS for MySQL/MariaDB or PostgreSQL — automated backups and point-in-time recovery.

Files & caching

S3 for moodledata file storage so servers stay stateless and replaceable, Redis for sessions and MUC caching — the two changes that make Moodle feel fast.

Edge & security

SSL via ACM or Let's Encrypt, security groups locked to least privilege, CloudFront where it genuinely helps, and uptime monitoring from day one.

Right-Sizing

Honest Sizing, Honest Bills

AWS bills punish guesswork. We size for your real concurrency.

Start lean

A 200-learner academy does not need a cluster. We will tell you when a single well-tuned instance plus RDS beats an autoscaling group on cost and reliability.

Scale when it is real

Exam-week spikes? We design so adding a load balancer and a second app node later is an afternoon of work, not a rebuild.

Cost visibility

You get the expected monthly AWS range in writing before we start, and the account is yours — no reseller markup, no hostage situations.

Migration

Moving an Existing Moodle to AWS

Zero-downtime method, rehearsed on a copy first.

1. Rehearse

We clone your site to AWS and run the full migration there first: database, moodledata, plugins, cron. You test the copy, not a promise.

2. Cut over in a quiet window

Final sync in a low-traffic window, DNS switch, and verification of logins, quizzes, file downloads and scheduled tasks before we call it done.

3. Keep the old door open

Your previous hosting stays untouched as a fallback until you confirm everything works. Rollback is a DNS change, not a rescue mission.

FAQ

AWS Hosting Questions

How much does it cost to host Moodle on AWS?

Our setup is a $200 fixed deployment (or $300 if we are migrating an existing site). Your AWS bill depends on size: small sites commonly run in the $25–$80/month range for instance, database and storage. We give you the expected range in writing first.

Is AWS overkill for a small school?

Sometimes, yes — and we will say so. If a quality VPS serves you better, our $200 deployment applies there too. AWS earns its keep when you need reliability, backups and room to grow.

Will our site go down during the migration?

No planned downtime. The migration is rehearsed on a clone and cut over in a quiet window with a final data sync. The old site remains as fallback until you sign off.

Do we own the AWS account?

Always. Everything is built in your AWS account, under your billing, with full admin access handed over. We work as invited users only.

Can you manage the AWS setup afterwards?

Yes — our support plans from $79/month cover updates, monitoring, backups and emergency response on AWS-hosted Moodle.
